voice
If you’re aiming upward with your voice, I’m here to help you accomplish that regardless of the style or current level of ability. I like to say this is sound engineering for the human instrument. Learning to shape the acoustic spaces while reducing unwanted tension, developing and balancing the function of the vocal folds with all of the other elements involved including the nervous system are all part of this amazing process.
Whether this is your first time trying voice lessons or you’re an advanced-age singer dealing with the challenges of a voice in maturing mode, or you’re at your professional and vocal peak and aiming higher still, I’m honored to be a part of your vocal journey.
My Background
From extensive classical training, professional experience in musical theater, light opera, contemporary styles, two years singing with a Grammy-winning jazz ensemble, session work for TV and film to extensive work on the breath and the voice, there’s not much I haven’t done and studied when it comes to singing. In 2011 I was introduced to MDH Breathing Coordination and found it to be the missing piece for every style, so that is foundational to all of the work I now do. In 2014, I became 4th in the world and first in the U.S. to be certified in this practice after hundreds of hours of training in Lausanne, Switzerland with Robin DeHaas and Lynn Martin. In 2017, I completed work on the English Language version of DeHaas’ book now titled “The Path of the Voice: a Functional Approach to the Human Instrument”.
I work with world class singers as well as motivated beginners, vocal professionals dealing with vocal pathologies including many that come with age or prior medical challenges. This is complemented by years of training in manual therapy including cranial-sacral and myofascial release. It’s all about the entire person.
My Teaching Philosophy
Every lesson is highly personalized for exactly how and where you are in the moment, whether live in my studio or online. My goal is to give you the tools and understanding to be confident in your work for when I’m not in the room with you. My own extensive and varied experiences and high level of perceptive skills allow me to respond in the moment, pivot as needed, and fold in the various elements to help you continue to aim upward.
