Demos...
All of the voices are my voice.
Nothing tricky has been done in the engineering, because I wanted it to sound like me. So, all of the backup vocals, lead vocals, descants, etcetera, are me. I emphasize this because people sometimes find it confusing.
"Which one is you?"
"All of them."
"What about the men?"
"Yes, that's me."
"What about the R&B thing?"
"Me."
I truly believe that everyone is capable of singing beautifully and effectively. As a singer, my goal is to give the client the sound they want, as long as I'm not going to hurt myself in doing so. I won't scream. But I will, at the director or producer's request, sound younger, older, more or less emotional, straight tone, operatic, brighter, darker, etcetera. Then I get in my car to go home, and I vocalize in my most healthy, natural voice so I keep the muscle memory on the right track. On the way to finding my best singing, which has continued to evolve since this demo, I've learned how to adjust the sound in many ways, and that's what I wanted "Overture" to demonstrate.
Flexibility has kept me marketable as a session singer. In a recording studio, no one cares if you're shorter than the tenor as long as you sound shorter.
